It worked! Thanks a lot for that....I have been
looking all over for a solution. I did exactly what you said, and here are some
"clarifications" for others trying this:
In my case, " %Program Files(x86)%", appeared 4 times, and I changed
them all. I received the error message: "error. access
is denied", but after the reboot, everything worked.

Hi, one of my
daughters had been playing with her laptop and I could not turn op automatic
updates. Tried all kind of things and finally used your solution (cmd ... RegSvr32 etc) and it worked. Many thanks for
publishing this info in such a way that even I (older computeruser)
was able to adjust the laptop.

Thanks for the article, you are
a life saver. I had reached the end of my rope but page 3 solved my problem.
After reassigning the XP drive letter to Z: and setting it up with the EasyBCD (2.0 Beta) after that (I tried EasyBCD
before and it didn't work, it was changing the drive letters that did it) I
finally got back into Windows XP. Thanks again!
